TRANSPORTATION SERVICES FROM PLANTATION TO RETAILERS

Banana harvesting – big and small companies in Latin America can pick this fruit and export it the whole year-round.

Weighing and measuring – the banana class is determined by their size and weight, and the class determines the price and the sale success.

Banana grading – bananas are sorted by the classes according to their size, form, ripeness, and damage.

Washing and disinfection – this is a crucial moment as it is important not to damage the fruit, but to get rid of dirt and pests.

Marking – each company sticks small labels on bananas and they will help you to recognize the country of their origin when they were picked, and how ecological the way of their cultivation was.

Packaging – packing is performed by the producer’s specialists.

Transporting within the country of origin – this is the first stage of transporting. The bananas are put in a special big transport container with temperature control.
Sea freight – this is the longest and most painful part of the route for bananas. It will take them 4-5 weeks to reach Europe.

Transporting within the customer’s country to the wholesale fruit warehouses – the boxes with bananas are sent from the ship to the customer’s warehouses, and temperature requirements have to be met both in transport and warehouses.

Transporting to retailers – fruit is taken from the warehouses and delivered to:
- Wholesalers
- Large retailers (Supermarket chains, Large supermarkets)
- Small retailers (Grocery stores, Markets)
- Banana product manufacturers (Juice producers, Banana bread makers, Confectionery)
- Foodservice providers (restaurants, cafes)
